Our Story

In February 2015, Haddy’s god-daughter had a very bad cold, and her mother was struggling with Vicks and Albas oil as they were too strong.

As a child growing up in KOTU, Haddy’s nickname was ‘baym’ (this was the name she used to call her mother before she could talk properly), so the name of her business is the story of her childhood

KOTU baym Naturals was started by Haddy Njie. Haddy was born in KOTU, The Gambia, and moved to the UK with her family as a child.

Haddy grew up in Huddersfield, which is half-way between Leeds and Manchester and is the 11th biggest town in the UK.

Haddy gained a BSc (Hons) Economics and Masters in (LL.M) International Corporate Law at the university of Leeds. Today she is a yoga enthusiast and instructor. She’s passionate about spirituality and travelling the globe to understand different cultures and ways of living a natural, healthy life.

As a child growing up in KOTU, Haddy’s nickname was ‘baym’ (this was the name she used to call her mother before she could talk properly), so the name of her business is the story of her childhood; of growing up in KOTU and using natural remedies made by her mother and great grandmother. Remedies that Haddy continues to make and use 32 years later.

Where did the idea for KOTU baym Naturals first come from?

In February 2015, Haddy’s goddaughter had a very bad cold, and her mother was struggling with Vicks and Albas oil as they were too strong. So Haddy suggested using the natural decongestant she had learned to make from her mother – and it worked! It cleared up Chloe’s congestion with the bonus of not exposing her to any chemicals.

This was a breakthrough for Haddy. She’d always loved creating things and solving problems, and now she had an opportunity to solve a problem for families throughout the UK using a trusted family recipe. This revelation led Haddy to launching KOTU baym Naturals, a natural healthcare business that is committed to giving families a choice of natural remedies through a growing line of chemical-free products.

Today, with help from The Prince’s Trust, Sherry Coutu (a well known serial entrepreneur) and Virgin Startup, Haddy is living her purpose – developing natural health remedies for families and working towards alleviating child poverty in Sub-Sahara Africa.
